Why Oregon Birkenstocks Need Attention

Oregon's wet climate is particularly hard on Birkenstock cork. The west side of the Cascades sees persistent rainfall and moisture from October through May — unsealed cork absorbs that moisture and the adhesive bond between sole layers breaks down faster than most owners expect. Pairs worn through an Oregon rainy season without cork sealing are deteriorating faster than they look. East of the Cascades, the drier high desert climate creates different stress — UV exposure and low humidity dry out the cork surface and cause cracking.
