In the mid-1800s, Carolina Gold farmers noticed that some plants were growing longer, more slender grains — a natural variation they selected and cultivated into its own variety. Santee Gold. It disappeared along with rice farming in the Carolinas and stayed gone for over a century. Tidewater Grain Co. brought it back in 2021, becoming the first farm in the world to grow it again.
Longer and more delicate than Carolina Gold, Santee Gold cooks a bit faster and has a lighter texture — a beautiful everyday table rice with the same heirloom character and nutty flavor as its predecessor. Grown and milled on Tidewater's family farm in Oriental, North Carolina, from seed to bag.
