Birkenstock Resole Service
The sole is the first part of a Birkenstock to wear out. The outer sole — the layer that contacts the ground — takes the full force of every step and wears down predictably over time. When it's gone, the cork midsole underneath starts taking damage. A resole at the right time saves the footbed. Wait too long and the cork absorbs the wear instead.
The Village Cobblery & Provisions has been resoling Birkenstocks since 1983. We use only genuine Birkenstock replacement soles — the same material Birkenstock uses from the factory. No aftermarket substitutes, no third-party materials. If it doesn't say Birkenstock on the sole, we don't use it.
What a Birkenstock Resole Involves
A resole replaces the worn outer sole while preserving your existing footbed. The old sole is carefully removed, the midsole is inspected and cleaned, and a genuine Birkenstock replacement sole is bonded in place using proper adhesive and pressure. The result is a pair that grips and cushions like new while retaining the broken-in footbed that has molded to the shape of your foot over years of wear.
A resole is the right service when the outer sole is worn but the footbed — the cork and latex base — is still structurally sound. If the footbed has compressed significantly or the cork is damaged, a full footbed and resole may be the better option.

How To Know If Your Birkenstocks Need a Resole
The most reliable sign is visible wear on the outer sole — particularly at the heel and ball of the foot where pressure concentrates. If the sole is worn thin enough that you can see the cork midsole starting to take damage, it's time. If the heel has worn unevenly and your gait has adjusted to compensate, it's past time.
Send us a photo before shipping and we'll give you an honest assessment. If a resole is all you need we'll tell you. If the footbed needs attention too we'll tell you that instead of doing a resole that won't last.
Mail-In Resole Service
We accept mail-in resoles from anywhere in the US. Contact us first to confirm the service and get a quote. Then pack your sandals securely and ship via USPS Priority Mail. We resole your pair by hand using genuine Birkenstock parts and ship them back with tracking. Most resoles are completed within approximately two weeks of receiving your shoes.
Return shipping is the customer's responsibility and will be confirmed before we ship back. We recommend insuring your outgoing shipment for its replacement value.
