Buckle replacement is one of the most straightforward repairs we perform — and one of the most satisfying, because a pair that has been shelved due to a failed buckle is fully functional again with a single repair that costs $20.

What Birkenstock Buckle Replacement Involves
A buckle replacement removes the failed buckle from the strap and installs a genuine Birkenstock replacement. The strap is inspected at the same time — if the strap itself has worn through at the buckle attachment point, we'll let you know before proceeding. In most cases the strap is sound and the buckle replacement is a clean, straightforward repair.
Common reasons buckles fail: corrosion from salt water, sweat, or moisture exposure; physical breakage from impact or stress on the prong; worn-through strap holes that allow the buckle to pull free; and simple age-related metal fatigue on older pairs.

Most Birkenstock models have one or two buckles. A two-buckle replacement is $40. If both buckles need replacing it often makes sense to assess the overall condition of the pair at the same time — we'll give you an honest picture of what else might need attention so you can make an informed decision before shipping.
How To Know If Your Birkenstock Buckle Needs Replacing
The signs are usually obvious — a broken prong, a buckle that no longer holds its position, visible corrosion that has compromised the metal's integrity, or a buckle that has pulled free from the strap entirely. If the buckle is functionally failing — not holding the sandal securely on your foot — it needs replacement.

Mail-In Buckle Replacement Service
We accept mail-in buckle replacements from anywhere in the US. Contact us first to confirm the service and get a quote. Then pack your sandals securely and ship via USPS Priority Mail. We replace your buckles using genuine Birkenstock hardware and ship your sandals back with tracking. Most repairs are completed within approximately two weeks of receiving your shoes.
Return shipping is the customer's responsibility and will be confirmed before we ship back. We recommend insuring your outgoing shipment for its replacement value.
